The G2 from 2010 was the first camera in the G series to add a touchscreen, combined with a 12.1MP Live MOS sensor and a fully articulated LCD. It had no IBIS, no 4K, and no Wi-Fi. At 371g it was close in size to the original G1. The G2 is now firmly a collector piece with no photographic advantage over anything made in the following five years. It replaces the Panasonic Lumix G1. It has been succeeded by the Panasonic Lumix G3. At 371g, this is one of the lightest M43 bodies available, 167g below the M43 average of 538g. Step up to the OM System OM-3 if you want more controls at the cost of 43g extra.
Best for: Everyday and casual photography
Cons
- No in-body image stabilisation
- Contrast-detect AF only, slower on unpredictably moving subjects
- Not weather sealed
