The E-PL7 from 2014 was the first PEN body to use a fully articulated touchscreen, combined with a 16.1MP Live MOS sensor and 3.5-stop IBIS at 357g. No 4K, no viewfinder. The flip-down screen made it popular for selfie and vlog use at the time. Wi-Fi was included. Used copies are inexpensive and it remains practical for still photography, but the lack of 4K limits video versatility. It replaces the Olympus PEN E-PL6. It has been succeeded by the Olympus PEN E-PL8. At 357g, this is one of the lightest M43 bodies available, 181g below the M43 average of 538g. Step up to the OM System OM-5 if you want more controls at the cost of 9g extra.
Best for: Handheld and low-light photography
Pros
- 3.5-stop IBIS for handheld stability
Cons
- Contrast-detect AF only, slower on unpredictably moving subjects
- Not weather sealed
- No 4K video
